User-dependent contraceptive methods (e.g. oral contraceptives and barrier methods) have high failure rates. Unlike user dependent methods, long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) have a one percent failure rate, require that women make a one-time decision, work over a long period of time (3 to 10 years), and are reversible.
